a. Seagate Technology

Seagate Technology, an American company is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of hard disk drives. It was founded in 1978 as Shugart Technology, by Alan Shugart, Tom Mitchell, Doug Mahon, Finis Conner, and Syed Iftika.

Since releasing the first 5.25-inch hard drive (5 MB ST-506 drive) in 1980 , Seagate has been a leader in the development of the hard disk drives. They were a major supplier in the microcomputer market during the 1980s, especially after the introduction of the IBM XT in 1983. In 1989 they finalized the purchase of Control Data Corporation’s Imprimis division, makers of the well regarded Wren product line. This gave Seagate access to the Wren’s voicecoil-based technology. In 1991 they introduced the 7,200 RPM Barracuda line, which remains their high-end offering to this day. They purchased Maxtor in 2006. (source: wikipedia)

b. SanDisk Corporation

SanDisk Corporation is an American multinational corporation that designs, develops and manufactures data storage solutions in a range of form factors using the flash memory, controller and firmware technologies. It was founded in 1988 by Dr. Eli Harari and Sanjay Mehrotra, non-volatile memory technology experts. SanDisk became a publicly traded company on NASDAQ in November 1995. SanDisk produces many different types of flash memory, including various memory cards and a series of USB removable drives. The company is headquartered in Milpitas, California, with offices or manufacturing facilities in 10 locations in Asia, 6 locations in Europe, and 3 locations in Israel. c. Samsung Storage devices

Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Corporation (abbreviated TSST) is an international joint venture company of Toshiba (Japan) and Samsung Electronics (South Korea). Toshiba owns 51% of its stock, while Samsung owns the remaining 49%. The company specialises in optical disc drive manufacturing. The company was established in 2004.

The company’s headquarters is located in Shibaura, Minato, Tokyo, Japan with Hiroshi Suzuki as its President and CEO. Its subsidiary, Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Korea Corporation is located in Suwon, South Korea, and headed by Sang Heung Shin.

Each corporation in Japan and Korea has the individual directorate system. For the business issues, TSST has been discussing it through the common relevant organization for mutual consent. TSST is currently responsible for the product development, marketing and sales, and has been taking advantage of the existing network of Samsung Electronics and Toshiba for manufacturing, sales, and after-sales service.

d. Hitachi

Hitachi, Ltd. is a Japanese multinational engineering and electronics conglomerate company headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan. It is the parent of the Hitachi Group and forms part of the DKB Group of companies. It was founded in 1910 by Namihei Odaira.  Hitachi is a diversified company and has 11 business segments: Information and Telecommunication Systems, Electrical Systems, Social and Industrial Systems, Automotive Systems, Electronic Component Devices, Construction, and Financial services.

Hitachi is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the Nikkei 225 and TOPIX indices. Hitachi was ranked 38 on the 2012 Fortune Global 500 list and was ranked 129 on the 2012 Forbes Global 2000 list. Also in 2012 total assests of hitachi is ¥9.418 trillion and also it have 323,540 employees.

Microsoft Windows

Microsoft Windows is a series of graphical interface operating systems developed, marketed, and sold by Microsoft.Microsoft introduced an operating environment named Windows on November 20, 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing interest in graphical user interfaces (GUIs).Microsoft Windows came to dominate the world’s personal computer market with over 90% market share, overtaking Mac OS, which had been introduced in 1984.The most recent client version of Windows is Windows 8; the most recent mobile client version is Windows Phone 8; the most recent server version is Windows Server 2012.

Android

Android is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. It was founded in Palo Alto, California in October 2003 by Andy Rubin , Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White. Android is currently developed by Google in conjunction with the Open Handset Alliance. Initially developed by Android Inc, whom Google financially backed and later purchased in 2005, Android was unveiled in 2007 along with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of 86 hardware, software, and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices.

Google releases the Android code as open source, under the Apache License. The Android Open Source Project (AOSP), led by Google, is tasked with the maintenance and further development of Android. Additionally, Android has a large community of developers writing applications (“apps”) that extend the functionality of devices, written primarily in a customized version of Java.They are available for download through Google Play or third-party sites. In October 2012, there were approximately 700,000 apps available for Android, and the estimated number of applications downloaded from Google Play (and the now-defunct Android Market) was 25 billion.

The first Android-powered phone was sold in October 2008,and by the end of 2010 Android had become the world’s leading smartphone platform, overtaking Symbian which held the record previously. It had a worldwide smartphone market share of 75% during the third quarter of 2012, with 500 million devices activated and 1.3 million activations per day. Application of the operating system has also moved beyond mobile phones and tablets, currently televisions, netbooks and cameras are some of the types of devices Android is featured in.
